Digital Art

Vector and pixel
portraits & paintings

Currently I am in some sort of transition (aren't we all?), creating an increasing amount of vector portraits and paintings and a decreasing number of pixel artworks. Affinity Designer allows me to create realistic vector art, which I was unable to do while using CorelDRAW and Illustrator, because they lack a Gaussian blur function. It is possible to make vector art in those programs using the mesh-fill tool, but that takes a huge amount of time and can not easily be changed afterwards, which is exactly what Affinity Designer permits artists to do in the blink of an eye. The reason for switching from pixel art to vector art is that the latter can be re-scaled to any size without losing quality. Blowing up pixel art results in blurriness, jagged edges and tone shifts, while vector art has none of these flaws. Until not too long ago it would be problematic to create realistic vector art in most programs - portraits especially. But since Affinity Designer was published, it actually is possible. Vector art can be printed on any desired size on a wide range of different surfaces and its quality invariably is beyond compare when using the digital printing process, including superb coating methods. I'm honoured to have you visit my website! Please browse around and enjoy.

Vector portraits

Vector portraits, like this one of Vladimir Putin, are resolution independent; they can be re-scaled to any size without losing quality. I create them with ZERO pixels, ALL vector in the brilliant Affinity Designer. Learn more...

Pixel portraits

Pixel portraits. like this one of Willie Nelson, are restricted to one size only for optimum quality. Pixel textures are created in less time than their vector counterparts in bitmap editing programs like Affinity Photo that I prefer to use. Learn more...

Vector painting 'Crossing Death's Frontier', created in Affinity Designer. ZERO pixels, ALL vector, thus re-scalable to any size without loss of quality. Learn more...

Pixel painting below is called 'Peace pipes and Winchesters'. It was intially created in Corel PhotoPain(t) but I switched to Affinity Photo after the Corel app began crashing, inspired by Howard Terpning's magnificent work 'The telling of legends'. Learn more...
